News on the BDCP: Progress Forward & Support Growing.
The U.S. Department of the Interior and the California Resources Agency released yesterday final revisions to the Bay Delta Conservation Plan’s Memorandum of Agreement (MOA), an agreement that facilitates the ongoing funding for the BDCP and coordination between public agencies. As many of you may know, SCWC is committed to the advancement of the BDCP. Find the final revisions to the MOA here.
In addition to the revisions to the MOA, the State and federal parties also responded to public comments that had been submitted on the BDCP MOA.
Secretary Salazar and Governor Brown released a joint statement announcing the revisions to the MOA and urging progress on this important program:
“It is clear that our Delta ecosystem needs repair and restoration. We shouldn't wait for a natural disaster to force our hand,” said Governor Brown. “This agreement takes us in the right direction to protect California’s water supply.”
“Successfully developing a science-based Bay Delta Conservation Plan holds the promise of breaking from the unsustainable status quo and being a game-changer for California,” said Secretary Salazar.
Rounding out the day, 20 members of the State Legislature also announced their support for BDCP.
To see who else is supporting the BDCP, please check out the growing supporters list which is maintained on our website.

SCWC Legislative Task Force: Priorities for 2012.
SCWC’s Legislative Task Force met last week and is in the process of setting policy guidelines and priority issues for 2012. Mapping out these priorities will help guide the task force’s efforts in the coming year and provide a framework for SCWC’s engagement on different legislative issues. It will also provide direction for SCWC’s public education and outreach efforts.
The proposed policy guidelines and priority issues for 2012 will be presented at the January 27 Board Meeting for review and approval. To get more information on our Task Forces and how to become a part of one of our programs, visit our dedicated Task Force page on our website, www.socalwater.org, or call, (818) 760-2121.
Delta Disrupted.
As many of you know, SCWC has recently launched a public education program, Delta Disrupted, to educate Southern Californians on the Bay Delta Conservation Plan. We now have additional documents online to help our members and other interested parties reach out to their local community members and share their support for the BDCP.
We encourage you to get educated and read our new materials.
