Interior Official Addresses MWD Board

Demonstrating a commitment to the Bay Delta Conservation Plan process and enhanced state/federal collaboration, Michael Connor, Commissioner of the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation, visitedMetropolitan Water District of Southern California today and addressed its Board of Directors on a variety of issues including the Endangered Species ActColorado River and the Bay Delta Conservation Plan.

During his commentary, Connor discussed the aggressive schedule and need to carefully balance with sound science and pointed out that the Bay Delta Conservation Plan is one of the Obama Administration’s “highest priorities."


BDCP Legislative Hearing Scheduled for October 19

An informational legislative hearing on water reliability and seismic risk is being held next Wednesday, October 19 at theMetropolitan Water District of Southern California. The hearing is being co-hosted by the Joint Legislative Committee on Emergency Management and the Assembly Select Committee on Regional Approaches to Addressing the State’s Water Crisis.

The hearing will address the existing seismic threats toCalifornia’s statewide water supply, looking at what steps should be taken to protect our water in the case of an earthquake or other emergency.

SCWC Member Three Valleys Municipal Water District Hosts Leadership Breakfast

We always like to share good news and updates from our member agencies and organizations. The Three Valleys Municipal Water District hosted its popular leadership breakfast last week, featuring Robert Hertzberg, co-chair of California Forward and former Speaker of the California State Assembly.

Leaders from throughout Southern California, including a solid delegation of local and statewide elected officials, came to supportThree Valleys and hear Hertzberg’s thoughtful presentation on how California Forward is promoting budget reform in California. Congrats on a solid event.

 


Delta Tunnel Conveyance Jobs Report Now Available Online

The report on job creation presented at the Bay Delta Conservation Plan meeting last month is now available online. The report, prepared by David Sunding of The Brattle Groupand UC Berkeley, determined that nearly 130,000 jobs would be created during the 7-year construction of a tunnel conveying water underneath the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta. The tunnel is one of several options currently under consideration in the Bay Delta Conservation Plan process.
